Liberi Erasmi is the first official student party at Erasmus University. The student party is a party that stands up for the interests of all students at Erasmus University, and has an important mission.

The student party emerged from a group of students at EUR who could not identify with the corona policy. Many of these students were at risk of being excluded from physical education on campus, which also showed little resistance. For an educational institution that profiles itself as ‘inclusive and diverse’, this was quite frightening for several students. Many of them indicated that a normal, rational debate or discussion with mutual respect and understanding for each other’s arguments was no longer possible. Many of them were also excluded by fellow students or ridiculed by fellow lecturers. Adhering to a non-dominant ideology was not accepted and led to labels such as ‘wrong’ or ‘selfish’.

We see the same trend happening again with more and more social issues that also play a role at Erasmus University. A different opinion or ideology because you have experienced different things in your own life is now easily canceled by labels such as 'wrong', 'unsafe' or 'non-inclusive'. The pursuit of objectivity and empirical evidence to find truths, and with it the norm about what is and is not accepted to think, is being affected.

Our mission is therefore to make critical thinking accessible again at a scientific knowledge institute (where students do not have to fear exclusion), and to be truly inclusive as a university for everyone, regardless of your personal characteristics, political preference, religious conviction or otherwise. No social exclusions, or symbolic politics that not everyone can agree with.

Finally, liberi Erasmi will also work to make the general interest of students more visible, to give students more voting rights, to promote student life and student well-being, to guarantee the individual freedoms of students and to promote a better administrative culture in which students play an important role.
