Egalitarian thinking and acting are central to the philosophical doctrine that EUR adheres to and uses as a basis for developing its policy. Egalitarian thinking forms the basis for steering towards a society with equal outcomes because it assumes an unfair world in which certain groups have more privileges than other groups based on their characteristics. This sounds innocent, but there are also disadvantages associated with this. Steering a university towards equal outcomes not only ensures that the quality of education will deteriorate because talent is lost due to quota procedures, but it also promotes a victim role among disadvantaged groups because we normalize that they are entitled to special treatment, which also forms the basis for discrimination.

For example, we have previously seen collaborations between the D&I office and groups such as ECHO awards, STEM awards, Loyens & Loeff Law multicultural Tax Awards, FAME & ATHENA awards where participation in programs only applies to students with, for example, a non-Western migration background, or other personal requirements that students have no influence on. In the name of tolerance, there should never be intolerance towards others. We believe it is important that every student, regardless of his/her personal characteristics, can participate at the university, and that they also find themselves in a safe learning environment. It is therefore good that information is available on how we can deal responsibly with each other with regard to different personal characteristics. Students must be able to express their opinion, without having to fear intimidation, cancel culture and social exclusion. In order to be able to accept everyone, the university is not supposed to exclude people with diversity and inclusion policy, but rather to offer the space to develop to the maximum.

Liberi Erasmis is in favor of true inclusivity in which people who think and are different are not excluded. That is why we want to realize this by

Liberi Erasmi wants:

  • An introduction of a renewed philosophy in which equal outcomes are not central, but equal opportunities. We want to motivate students to get the best out of themselves and to use the opportunities they have and can create.
  • Providing sufficient information on how we can responsibly interact with each other in which intolerance, intimidation, cancel culture and social exclusion towards students who think differently or are different is disapproved of. In favor of offering as much space as possible for the various student associations that are connected to the EUR such as EMA, ARIA, CSA, HSFN, Mozaik, PPI, SSA, and EESA, IQRA, ICHTUS, VGSR, CSFR etc. so that they can organize their events on campus as external groups to increase student involvement.
  • We would like to promote a workplace where employees can be hired for their qualities, and not for their gender, ethnicity or sexual orientation to radiate a certain ‘inclusivity’ or to fill a target. This line of thinking will be at the expense of the quality of education that students are entitled to. That is why we would like to see a more conscious selection procedure (in which quality and motivation are more central) instead of mandatory (gender) quotas that are currently introduced in the EUR strategy plan of 2025.
  • We strive for a university in which everyone is accepted and treated equally. This means that we do not support privileges for ‘disadvantaged’ groups, as is currently the case with the ECHO awards, STEM awards, Loyens & Loeff Law multicultural Tax Awards, FAME & ATHENA awards, where participation in programs only applies if students have a non-Western migration background, or other personal requirements that students have no influence on. Opportunities should be available to everyone, and not just to students who profile themselves as ‘disadvantaged’.
A free university for everyone
