A safe learning environment for everyone

Erasmus University has repeatedly expressed support for certain political movements, ideologies and social movements, while not every student can identify with them. Political statements on behalf of Erasmus University imply that the university and the people who sit on it support these statements, while they are not representative of everyone, and should therefore not be made. By making political statements, other opinions and analyses are not respected, and thus contribute to a non-inclusive learning environment in which it becomes taboo to think differently than the status quo. This creates an unsafe learning environment in which students do not feel representative, and even excluded. In addition, this does not promote the critical thinking that is expected of an academic institution. The university is an educational institution, and should focus on unbiased education that students have a right to. The university should therefore not be misused as a political instrument to push certain ideologies on students. Liberi Erasmi will guarantee the core value of safety, where every student can come to campus engaged and safe without feeling like he/she doesn't belong because of his/her ideology, personal and/or political preference.

Liberi Erasmi wants:

  • A reporting point against unsafe atmosphere at the university including educational indoctrination, personal intimidation and discrimination & racism. Erasmus University must make an annual report of these developments (anonymously) and must share this publicly, which must then be discussed in the university council. We as a student party are also always open to receiving these complaints and representing them in the participation councils.
  • Promote an atmosphere in which every ideology, political preference and/or religion is respected. Teachers and tutors should therefore be careful with political/religious statements in order to create an atmosphere in which everything can be said without being disadvantaged (numerically) as a student.
  • Erasmus' social media channels must take into account statements regarding certain social developments, political movements or social movements. Not every student or employee can agree with the statements on behalf of EUR. For this reason, we want to introduce guidelines that the social media channels must take into account in order to keep the university inclusive for every student and employee. We strive for a tone that is as neutral as possible.
